I love taking things literally, and it sometimes gets me into trouble. This time it didn't. When Dr. Dominik Matyka, DMEXCO's chief advisor asked me if I wanted to create a large piece about the word CARE, I said yes immediately because CARE is one of my own personal key words, too, almost like a mantra. Dominik knew this, of course.
For DMEXCO CARE stands for Curiosity, Action, Responsibility, Experience. For me, it is a way of life, as a father, husband, artist, entrepreneur and passionate long distance driver.
Now, "Take C.A.R.E." is the motto of this year's exhibition at Koelnmesse and I wanted to add something really special. So I created four large square canvasses - one for each letter filled with the outlines of numerous people, letters and circles. The works can be rearranged in different ways, horizontal, square and vertical. They are all about being connected, just like the visitors, speakers and exhibitors of the show. Each works gets its own blockchain certificate, so no matter where they end up, they will always be connected on the blockchain.
One of the questions I asked myself when I created this piece was: How can I express the nature of the digital world with a painting? The internet is based on the fact that information can be copied and send to another destination. So we are going to have the works printed on a large scale, 20 x 5 metres, and we will cut this copy up and sign the pieces after the show. An original work turns into a digital copy and the copy back into an original...
